IN-CHARACTER:
Character name: Reeve Tuesti
Character journal: [personal profile] plate_builder
Series name: Final Fantasy VII
Canon notes: CRAU from Sixth Iteration with minor AU Background
Species: Human
Age: 38

Arrival Condition: Uninjured and healthy

History: Canon Background

Reeve's history before the CRAU changes very little from the above Canon background. His AU is that he is from a slightly different version of the above world and history, where the major difference is that instead of being gifted as a programmer of AIs and computers, Reeve is in fact hiding a magical ability called Inspire. In this version of FF7's world, ShinRa Electric Power Company tries to control and 'study' those born with innate magical aptitudes.

Many people born with inherent magical gifts have been killed, captured and studied, or in hiding. Reeve is one of the latter, hiding an ability that will be discussed in the Abilities section that he calls 'Inspire'. He spent much of his life suppressing his gift, save for in small projects when he was growing up. It is known that ShinRa takes these people with gifts in and much of the populous related to the company believe it is from these people that SOLDIER is formed, or that they find other uses in the company.

Reeve, not a violent man by nature, hid his gift at his parents' advising, and later learned as a senior executive in ShinRa that these people are instead taken and experimented upon to see if their gifts derive from the ancient Cetra people, or if it can be replicated. Many born with these magics and not under ShinRa's control die. Reeve hides his gift behind his skill with robotics and a claim of skill with remote controls and minor AI functions. Part of the reason he finally decides to stand by AVALANCHE is knowing that his gift is becoming more and more obvious and a need to protect himself and others like him, as well as the Planet.

Other than this note, Reeve's story falls in line with canon, and he moves through FF7, One the Way to a Smile, Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus, Reeve finds himself pulled into another world. So begins his CRAU time at 6i. In the time in this game he met a lot of people, and learned of other worlds and races. Mostly, though, he was forced to live in a setting where technology, save for one device cuffed to each person, was set to an Edwardian time period standard. There was rarely electricity, no hot water, and many things that needed built. He immediately started acting with his skills to make maps, plan building of important structures, and working with other people pulled into the Iteration to this end. While there he found himself living alone and driven by the motivation to improve the lives of those people around him, whether they wanted the help or not.

In a way Reeve got back to his roots as an architect and engineer. He didn't want to change the world, he just wanted to take those steps necessary to improve the lives of people around him. Whenever he saw a need he tried to meet it, discussing plans of trying to make a low end electric dynamo with Tony Stark to turn the river into an electricity source, seeking to help establish a farming group south of the Villages where food could potentially be grown year round, helping to design and raise a bunkhouse there, and even putting up a stable to provide better shelter the village's animals. Reeve spent much of his time either interacting with friends he made or driving himself to exhaustion in his house, drawing plans, drafting architectural designs, or drawing just to relax himself. Often he found himself being mothered by Brigitte Lindholm and Stephanie Brown to make sure he ate, slept, and got out of the house from time to time when he wasn't active on a project.

While there he learned to be even better at accepting differences between humans and other races. he'd already developed some ease of interaction through being friends with Nanaki, but meeting Qunari like Iron Bull, a mutant like Nightcrawler, and two plant people, he's learned not to judge on first look, and started to take strange happenings in stride.

Personality:
Strengths:
Moral Compass - Unlike other executives tied to ShinRa, Reeve repeatedly shows himself to be focused on doing what is right and good. He doesn't care about company profits or goals, but rather on providing the best life he can to those people who ShinRa was responsible for. This continued on, of course, to his work in the WRO and with Avalanche. Reeve is the only senior member of ShinRa to protest the dropping of the ShinRa Plate, and who immediately was focused on what would need to be done to repair the damages and help those affected by the situation. He also changes sides to join Avalanche, who he was originally spying on, trying to learn about the ecoterrorist group. When he realized that they were fighting FOR the planet and what they had learned about Sephiroth, ShinRa and Meteor, he went fully over to their side and attempted to stop his colleagues and evacuate Midgar, the city he had created. After that he spends years establishing the WRO to try and rebuild the world and help it recover from the damage he felt responsible for because of the Mako Reactors and his work with ShinRa. His moral compass leaves Reeve constantly seeking redemption, something he's not certain he can achieve.

Dedicated - Reeve often is the first in and last out of the office on a day to day basis, both with ShinRa and in a post-ShinRa world. Given he was effectively a man of many hats, Reeve practically lived out of his office. Going home was not an efficient use of his time, and if he was using the company showers and the fold out couch in his office, he was giving more time to the people that needed him. Later, when the WRO was established and their HQ had been built, Reeve went as far as to make himself an apartment attached to his office to save on commute time because frankly, he's going to be at his desk for HOURS after business hours so he can finish paperwork, do architectural drafts, or give just one more pass at the wording on legal agreements. Reeve tends to believe that if a job is worth doing it's worth doing right the first time and the best way to do it right is to put a good bit of time into it.

Analytical - For all that Reeve is emotional and empathic, the man is first and foremost an analytical mind and sees the world from that point of view. People may be understood from an emotional standpoint, Reeve prefers to see the world through equations, material strengths, and efficient routes. Yes, he's capable of the tenderness and kindness needed to support other people and those he is responsible for, at the end of the day he finds he can help them more if he throws himself into harder sciences. This is why, growing up, he'd opted to become an architect and engineer rather than continuing his family's history of rural living and farming.

Weaknesses:
Obsessive - The reverse issue to Reeve's dedication is that he tends to neglect himself and his own needs when he gets involved in a project. Set a new goal before him and unless there are other deadlines or someone to say 'stop that, do this', he's going to give every possible second to the work until it's drafted or written or calculated. This can lead to Reeve neglecting his own needs in favor of projects. He may not eat enough, sleep enough, or even shower in favor of his work. Well, the only exception is his facial hair. Reeve is very set on keeping his facial hair properly trimmed.

Depressed - It is possible to say that much of what is wrong with Reeve's world, which was dying from abuse of Mako energy, is all Reeve's fault. Or, at least, Reeve blames himself for it. Much of the experimentation with Mako was made easier because of his work, the entirety of Midgar as it existed was because of him and thus he holds himself responsible for the horrors of the slums, and he even feels guilty for kidnapping the daughter of an ally to get Avalanche to continue taking his Cait Sith unit along even after they knew it was a spy. The guilt gnaws heavily at Reeve and the greater overdedication to his work leads to Reeve burning himself out. A lot of this is very obvious during his time in the WRO. When their headquarters is attacked and basically destroyed by the WRO Reeve is left in a pure depressive funk, wondering if there was any point to continuing until a friend, Vincent Valentine, told him that if it weren't for Reeve, he wouldn't be involved in the world. Still, Reeve is prone to depressive episodes over his guilt in what ways he hurt his own world.

Isolated - There had been a lot of instances in his life that make Reeve feel like he is separate from other people. Being someone hiding his magical abilities meant he couldn't be open with who he was to other people. Leaving a rural farming life to become and architect and engineer meant he was coming into higher education with a different life experience than many colleagues and thus didn't know how to connect with them. As a ShinRa executive he was often seen as too young, too gentle, or too naive to fit in among his senior level colleagues. There are still people in Avalanche, who he saved the world with, who don't trust him. More or less Reeve has found himself often distant from his peer groups, something that makes him feel like he can't emotionally connect with other people. That if he even tries people will find a reason to exclude him to some degree, denying him true deep friendship and emotional intimacy with others.

Abilities:
Skills: Reeve is a trained, experienced, and highly qualified expert in numerous fields, practically a prodigy in many senses that helped redefine his world. This includes:
Architecture: Reeve is a master architect and planner, both on the small and large scale. Reeve is the mastermind behind The City Of Midgar that last one is a 1/1000th scale model, the seventy story ShinRa Tower, and of course Mako Reactors, which leads into his next two skills. He also later has his hands in the process of building Edge after Meteorfall, and the WRO corporate Headquarters.

Engineering: Mako Reactors are power generating reactors that draw on Mako, the life-essence of the planet of Gaia, to create reactive processes and through the burning of it, electricity can be harnessed. Before Reeve refined the harvest process and created the Mako Reactor. At the time he was unaware of the correlation between Mako and the Lifestream, and thus unknowingly created a process by which his planet was being killed, and all by his own doing, something for which he still has guilt. These reactors have different forms based on when they were designed, size and location, and thus require unique designs from engineering and architectural standpoints and need custom made, primarily through Reeve's work. As part of this he's also a talented electrical engineer and understands power systems and subsystems to support them.

City Planning: In ShinRa Inc Reeve is the Head of the Urban Development department. Effectively he is the primary city planner for the upper plates (Midgar is a city on massive stilts and support columns), as well as having to plan for utilities provided by the company, public transit, and other public services. It's a lot to put on a single man's shoulders and he has a great department support, and as such he's also learned a LOT about delegating, working with teams, and management of groups and projects.

Organizational and Leadership Skills: As a ShinRa Executive Reeve was in charge of one of the larger and underfunded departments in the company. He managed a large staff that controlled not only the Shinra Tower, which was the headquarters of the company, but also much of the city design and public services. He was in charge of a large number of people and had to manage paperwork, vital processes, and project deadlines to make sure everything ran smoothly. Later on, after the fall of ShinRa, Reeve established the WRO (World Regenesis Organization) and serves as its Founder and President. The group is a charitable organization focused on restoring the world after the damage done by Sephiroth and ShinRa Inc the latter of which he feels responsible for in no small part because of the Mako Reactors. The organization has put even more organizational and leadership skills in his experience as he has to run a whole company, manage budgets, and negotiate with foreign leaders and nations to see if he can get assistance or provide it, as well as establishing a police force to help in peace keeping situations, though only ever in short term deployments.

Robotics: Reeve also dabbled in Robotics starting in college and continuing through his time in ShinRa Inc. This became easier upon working with ShinRa because he could discuss ideas with members of the Research and Design read: Weapons Development department and base some work of off their own designs. His dabbling became a means to create something he could use his magic on that would believably be able to move on its own. His creation was Cait Sith, a black and white cat that rides a robotic moogle that it controls. The creature is a full robotic structure under a furry fabric skin and with a crown. He has come to love Cait Sith like a son, given its personality and connection to him, and even has made extras for when he loses one.

Inspire: The magical ability Reeve has from his AU background. This was originally written as part of his character and later taken down only to implications in very cursory extra FF products. Inspire is a magic that allows Reeve to 'breathe life' into inanimate objects. It is through this that he gave Cait Sith the appearance of a full robot with a remote control and some 'hints' of an AI system. What is truly happening is that when he inspires he breathes over a relative small object (no bigger than an average 6 year old child), and imparts into it not only his magic, but some degree of a 'soul'. Whether this soul is real or not is a question he has not explored. These inspired creations are capable of independent behavior, and have a personality suited to their form and based upon Reeve's imagining as he uses the magic. Of course these are slightly limited. He could make a small doll out of straw and breathe his magic into it, but lacking a fully flexible form and ways to articulate, the creatures personalities have to be expressed through movement. Things evocative of animals are more likely to behave in an animal form unless he focuses a lot more on personality and behavior. The creation also speaks with a voice of his choice.

These inspired constructs can either operate independently based on the personality and motivations he breathes into them, or be directly controlled by him and his will. This leads to situations where creatures like Cait Sith can act independently, but he can also look through the eyes of the Cait Sith almost psychically through his connection and even learn what it knows. Because of this his inspired creations can perform complex tasks if he has sufficient focus to control their will directly, or leave them to their own devices. By preference he likes to leave Cait Sith with his own will, seeing the cat robot as his offspring.

When an inspired creation is destroyed or ceased by his magical will, the 'soul' of it returns to him, returning to him his powers. In game he can maintain only one inspired creation at one time. Control of the creations is harder over long distances and he will be required to use his whole focus to communicate with it or override its will if it's more than twenty-five yards away. If it's over fifty yards away he will experience some degree of psychic pain from the distance the bond is being strained over, thus by preference he will try and keep a creation close at hand, more a companion than another set of hands or eyes. The storms in this game will break the magical connection, returning the magic of the inspired creation to Reeve, and it would have to be replenished after the storm. However, he is able to bequeath the knowledge, skills, and personality of one inspired creation into the next, allowing him to create a continual existence for them.

Personal Item: His custom coat from his time with the WRO, see here. Normally the guy wears suits, but sometimes, his taste is just questionable.
