Does it need to be said? You can find this poor civil engineer in any sort of situation you want. Put up a starter and let it run free. No Scarlets welcome, though. He can't stand them.
Np. Life has been a pain here too. Hope you're feeling better!

"You don't mind me crashing on your couch for at least another day? I think a day and a few more curative spells should get me on my feet enough to head back to Edge. And I will see to hiring protection once I'm there."
no subject
Waiting for Reeve to take the medication, Rufus does continue to speak, however. "Would you like me to get the Turks to vet some protection groups for you?"
no subject
Perhaps has his own reason for offering it, but Reeve is far too tired to care about trying to figure out what Rufus is aiming at, how he's trying to turn things to his advantage. Maybe Rufus really is just trying to help.
no subject
Of course this means he won't push his help off on Reeve, won't even let out the laugh that threatens to come at being told his offer is nice, merely nodding a little. "Let me know if you end up needing anything else tonight. For now, I'll leave you to rest."
no subject
"Thank you," Reeve says again, and he really does mean it. Rufus was giving him something to work toward and something he could give to the people not because it was necessary but because it was fun.
no subject
Rufus himself will try to rise before the other man too, greeting him briefly before returning to what seems to be toast and jam for his breakfast.
no subject
And finally... I'll poke the Vincent thread later
Which means he will incline his head to Reeve when he catches his attention after the greeting, indicating one of the chairs at the table to him before returning to his own food.
No problem. Sorry it took so longer to reply. Twisted my wrist.
"I seem to remember you awake when I went to sleep. And now here you are, already awake and behaving like a human being. How do you manage it?"
Np, sorry for my own delay. Changing jobs and it's been crazy
It was the former potential reason that brought a chuckle from Rufus when Reeve spoke his question, and the look he gave showed he was biting back the immediate remark that came to mind, even if the one he gave was just as bad. "I feed off Reno and his endless energy, of course. Keeps him calmer."
no subject
The man prods at the food in front of him, not quite sure he's hungry. He knows he should be hungry, but it really isn't that simple, is it?
no subject
no subject
This has all been strange and... jarring.
"Coming to terms with the fact that there was an attempt on my life. I'm not a bad person. I didn't think I was at least."
no subject
"This isn't about good or bad. It's purely about fear. You are high profile, repairing things and working to set up something for the defense of this world. Although you aren't out making speeches like my father and I did, you're a threat to those who were fooled by ShinRa and don't want to be fooled again.
"You're also a threat to those who are making a living by providing necessities to those who don't have them, at an exorbitant price. In other words, you're being viewed as a possible new ShinRa."
no subject
"And yet people don't treat people who provide those necessities at exorbitant prices the way I've been treated here. And frankly, I can't believe fixing things would inspire such a reaction as this. I believe in people, Rufus, I believe there's good in them and that this isn't how it people would react to something good."
Is it wrong to believe in people? Is it wrong to think that what he's doing will be embraced? Yes. He knows it. It's stupidly foolish, but he wants to be hopeful. Believe the world can be something good and trusted, that they can rebuild like that.
"I have to believe the world isn't as jaded as you think."
no subject
"Self-preservation dictates you know what a person wants from you, long before you ever trust them. That person who sells you over priced goods, you know what they want; money, power over you, and so long as you pay you're fine. Someone who is giving you food, shelter, everything you need and asking nothing in return? What do they want? Nothing? Money? Power? Your life? Something you can't even imagine?"
Rufus stands finally, letting the words settle for a moment as he collects his half-eaten breakfast and goes towards the trashcan to get rid of it, though he's cautious not to let Reeve speak just yet.
"And Reeve, what do you think those men who are profiting are going to say when someone comes along offering their wares for free? Certainly not 'let's find another job.'"
no subject
No, he doesn't agree with Rufus. He isn't that naive. No, it's something Rufus doesn't understand. Something else entirely.
"I don't have this problem further from Edge. It's that people around here have had their trust betrayed by your father's company. He promised us so much, and took even more. That is what people fear. Because I made the mistake of believing in him when I was young and he had a vision. I was naive in believing in him, like they were. And I suppose I shouldn't be shocked by that concern."
no subject
"Thinking like that, you're going to have more trouble." A natural smirk comes to his face as he speaks, but it's strangely devoid of amusement or superiority. "I'm well aware my father and I screwed a lot of things up, and the people closest to Midgar are going to be the most... Upfront about their concerns.
"Yet you remain naive if you think that ShinRa is the only reason, or that those further out aren't going to cause trouble because of what they feel, whether in general or due to the company; their fire just burns lower, but it will build, and the distance which keeps that fire low won't last forever."
no subject
Believing the best in people is just how Reeve works. It's foolish, he knows that. But he needs what hope for the future he can get. Otherwise it just gets harder to get through the days.
Will try and start back up the Vin and Reeve thread soon
Shaking his head slowly, Rufus finally moved away from the counter. "Believe as suits you best, as long as you hire someone. I suppose I can be jaded enough for the both of us."
No rush I'm still getting this all back together
Reeve just keeps an eye on Rufus, watching him carefully. The younger man is just so hard to read, so hard to understand. But that didn't mean he was the only one jaded here. Just different degrees of jaded. Different shades. Vastly different shades.
"I already told you I would," Reeve sighs. "And you were going to have your people prepare suggestions. Which I am grateful for. I think I might also invest some effort into a side project of mine. A double for riskier situations."
Ok :)
"A double? Like a body double? Someone to pretend to be you...?"
Re: Ok :)
No, this is something he's considered before, and he wants to see how far it can take him. That part he can handle on his own.
"What about you? Are you really safe here?"
no subject
"You want to make some form of android, then?"
He seems to ignore the other question. Explaining it would lead to potentially having to explain things he wasn't wanting to discuss.

I am learning enough about Drunk Reeve to know it's a bad idea here
lol Reno would just whine at being on bottom - then ask Reeve where Rufus sits I bet
Reeve would point out Rufus isn't a Turk

I wonder how many peopel would shoot me for giving Rufus a childish side
Nah, Rufus made his ENTRANCE on a fucking helicopter and leaves the same way. Childish is true.
Sure that wasn't phallic?
No, his weapon is phallic. The chopper was childish and showy
At least he's reasonable... Sephiroth overdid it
Sephiroth likes it long, Cloud thick. And Rufus? Powerful explosions at the end.
Oh my. Sounds dirty!
True. But does that make Reeve magic in bed?
Quite possibly
